Yesterday was my first mormon prom. It was quite the experience. At around 1:30, my mom pulled me out of school to go pick up Nick's boutonniere and go to my hair appointment. His boutonniere was exactly how I wanted it to be- a fuchsia rose with hints of sparkles, so I was pretty pleased with the HyVee floral department. Right after, we hurried over to my 2:00 hair appointment and I was VERY pleased with how my hair turned out- it had a romantic look to it, which was exactly what I wanted (see below). Then I got home and touched myself up, put some makeup on, and got my dress on. Just as I finished getting ready, I got a text from Nick (my date) saying that he had left early, thinking my house would be hard to find, but ended up finding it right away. So instead of him coming at 5:45, he came around 5:35- not too shabby (: When he first came, I'm not going to lie, it was super awkward. Mainly because it was just me, my mom, and him. But I successfully my mom successfully pinned on his boutonniere and he put on my super adorable corsage. We then proceeded to take the typical prom pictures. You know- by the fire place, by the piano, outside of the front door. Finally, we went out to his car and, to my happy surprise, he hurried and opened my door for me. Good Job, Nick. (: As soon as we were both in the car, Nick let out a huge sigh of relief. "Oh good. The worst part is over." It's true, that was probably the most awkward part of the night. We then talked and talked until we finally arrived at my friend Karina's house- where we were meeting up with her and her date to double with them. After A TON of pictures (haha Karina), we all got in the car and headed over to the church for a dinner. The dinner decorations were super creative. The theme was "in the clouds" so they had dry ice at each table and smoke machines throughout the room. Our dinner was provided by Golden Corral and was pretty good. We then headed over to the stake center for the dance portion of the night. Those decoration were amazing. The theme was "Under the Stars" and they projected stars on the ceiling and it was overall really pretty. I danced with my date and then danced with some tongans, old friends from Rolla, and some new friends. After a while, we dropped Karina and her date off and then Nick drove me home and we talked the whole way back. He opened my door for me (love it!), walked me to the door, gave me a hug and a thank you, and then we went our separate ways. Despite my swollen and blistered feet due to my high heels, it was a great night and I will definitely remember it for years on.
